Banks have repaid about 75% of TARP funds, Geithner says

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the Congressional Oversight Panel that financial institutions have repaid about three-quarters of the money they received through the Troubled Asset Relief Program. TARP "has helped restore financial stability at a much lower cost than anticipated," Geithner said. However, he acknowledged that the rescue of American International Group likely will be a loss.
