Bayer unit eyes high-capacity polycarbonate in Asia

Strong Asian economic growth has led Bayer Material Science to plan construction of a polycarbonate facility in the region, expressing confidence in Asia-led growth for the chemical industry. The plant will be built in China or Thailand, with the decision coming by the end of 2010 and operations beginning in 2013 or 2014, said CEO Patrick Thomas. "Asia dominates the market and accounts for around 65% of worldwide demand, compared with 50% before the crisis," Thomas said.
