New Mexico nets $385,000 in federal fuel grants

New Mexico's poorest families got a $385,000 windfall this week thanks to a residential-fuel grant from the federal government. The cash will be used to help low-income New Mexico residents pay their propane bills and assist families who use wood-burning stoves to heat their houses. "Eligible households will receive immediate assistance with fuel costs, but will also receive assistance with increasing the energy efficiency of their home," said the state's human services chief.
