N.Y. lawmakers pass bill requiring autism coverage

The New York Assembly on Monday passed a bill that would mandate health insurance companies to cover screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders. The legislation, which now goes to Gov. David A. Paterson, "has the potential to be the most comprehensive of its kind, because other states have a dollar cap and an age cap, which means that the treatments are only available up to a certain amount of money or for specific ages," an official of advocacy group Autism Speaks said.
