Report: Consumers remain stingy with restaurant dollars

Consumers plan to continue tightening their spending on food at eateries and grocery stores in the coming months, according to new research from NPD Group. Restaurant spending ranked first on the list of areas where respondents cut back during the past year. "Some have suggested that we're entering an 'Age of Thriftiness,'" notes the report's author Dori Hickey.
