Getting negative buzz? Don't shoot the messenger

Julie Taymor, the creative force behind Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," is blaming Twitter and Facebook for the show's harsh critical reception -- but Taymor's refusal to take negative buzz at face value is self-serving and disingenuous, writes Terry Teachout. "[F]or her to blame the failure of 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' on Twitter is as wrong-headed as blaming a Dear John letter on the envelope in which it was sent," Teachout writes.
