Ala. launches college, career-readiness plan to replace NCLB

The U.S. Department of Education has granted Alabama's waiver to be exempt from many of the requirements of No Child Left Behind. The state now will follow a plan of its own design -- PLAN 2020 -- which includes a goal of graduating 90% of students and preparing all graduates for college or career by 2020. State Superintendent of Education Tommy Bice said the state's plan will deviate from NCLB's "all-or-nothing" approach and better meet students' needs.
