Commentary: Energy firms shouldn't be treated like swap dealers

Former U.S. Rep. Michael Oxley writes in this blog post that lawmakers erred with the Dodd-Frank Act in demanding that energy companies be treated like swap dealers. Six West Coast senators have asked Gary Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, to pay extra attention to energy companies that use derivatives. In their letter, the lawmakers sought to know why the energy companies have not registered as swap dealers.
