Gevo's Gruber urges ethanol producers to diversify into isobutanol

Ethanol producers can boost their revenue by adding isobutanol capacity, said Gevo CEO Pat Gruber. Isobutanol uses feedstocks similar to ethanol's but contains more energy and less oxygen and is easier to transport, Gruber said. Isobutanol can be used to make fuels for small engines or jets, as well as renewable chemicals for several applications, he added.
