Md. teachers devote summer to common core math

Elementary-school teachers in Maryland are spending some of their summer vacation learning how to adjust their math instruction to the Common Core State Standards for math being implemented this fall. During a recent session, teachers compared questions based on the old standards to questions based on the new ones, which ask students to show their work "using numbers, symbols and words" instead of simply choosing A, B, C or D.
