Teacher uses creative writing as an outlet for students

A creative-writing teacher at a New York City school for troubled students is helping to engage them by connecting assignments to students' lives outside of the classroom. Danielle Bero says that no topic is too difficult or off limits, and she works to make activities accessible and inspiring, including poetry slams and screenplay-writing. "I create a safe space for students to talk about whatever they want," she said.
