Court takes middle road with affirmative action decision

The Supreme Court's decision to support the University of Michigan Law School's admissions program but strike down the undergraduate school's points-based plan was essentially a reflection of public opinion on the issue, said Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center. Dozens of corporations praised the ruling, saying affirmative action is necessary to promote diversity in the work force.
