CDC: Brain injury from falls a serious problem for elderly

Brain injuries caused by falls sent 56,000 seniors to the hospital in 2005 and led to the deaths of 8,000 more, according to a CDC study. The agency has suggestions for preventing falls, including removing floor clutter, providing good lighting, and encouraging seniors to get regular exercise to maintain their strength and balance.
