Bernanke quietly seeks more power for Fed

Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, has been relatively quiet during discussions regarding an overhaul of financial regulation. In private, he has advocated greater authority for the Fed, which he said could act more decisively to prevent another crisis. Bernanke has refuted criticism of the Fed's actions, saying the central bank helped avert what might have been another Great Depression.
