Boston special-education teacher is recognized for excellence

Patricia Dervan, who teaches a program for students with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities, is among 13 teachers being honored with a 2010 Boston Educators of the Year and Service of Excellence award. Dervan teaches students skills they will need to live independently after graduation at age 22. "They give me back more than I can give them," she said.
