Native Americans implement programs to combat diabetes

A number of Native American communities are launching mentoring programs in schools, nutritional counseling, community farming and other initiatives to address the increasing rate of diabetes. Moreover, diabetes-related health services are becoming more prevalent in tribal communities, driven by the creation of the Special Diabetes Program for Indians in 1997.
