Plan would limit hours, increase oversight for residents

Proposed guidelines for medical residents that could go into effect in July 2011 would require hospitals to scale back shifts and increase supervision to help avoid errors. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education also plans to increase monitoring and enforcement of residency work requirements and conduct on-site annual visits to hospitals.
