The preservation of trees, the increased use of natural ventilation and lighting systems, the use of green construction materials and appliances and environmental management are all parts of sustainable development, he writes. "A combination of good design and smart, efficient technology is the formula to adopt; and designing buildings with sustainability in mind from the beginning should be compulsory," de Forges concludes.
