6 million Facebook users had data exposed by bug, social network admits

The e-mail addresses and phone numbers of 6 million Facebook users were exposed to other members because of a database error, the company says. Facebook's "Download Your Information" tool was responsible for the breach, according to Facebook, which added, "[N]o other types of personal or financial information were included and only people on Facebook -- not developers or advertisers -- have access to the DYI tool." Government agencies, which use Facebook to increase outreach to the public, said they had not been told about the breach by Facebook, Aliya Sternstein writes.
