Calif. father finds Edmodo is open to security breaches

A father in California, who also works as an engineer at Cisco Systems, recently studied the data security of Edmodo, an online-learning network, and found some deficiencies. After creating a fake profile with fake students, Tony Porterfield found that the website does not encrypt user sessions -- a protocol called Secure Sockets Layer. Without such protection, Porterfield was able to spy on the simulated online activities of a student from his home Wi-Fi connection.
