An Indiana school district is overhauling its policy on weighted grades, using them for scholarship purposes only for graduating classes in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and applying them to grade point averages in 2017. At that time, Advanced Placement courses will receive an additional 1.0, and dual-credit and honors courses will come with an additional .5. Students must earn a C to earn the weighted grade. The district also will eliminate valedictorian and salutatorian honors by 2017 and instead adopt the Latin model used by most colleges.
