Panel: Faculty must be included in university leadership

Faculty should be included in university governance, according to participants in a panel discussion at a recent meeting of the National Association of College and University Attorneys in Philadelphia, Pa. Shared governance, the panel agreed, is a must for higher education. "If the community forgets that faculty energy, and even faculty combativeness, is the essence of higher education, then we lose something very, very precious," said Richard Levao, president of New Jersey's Bloomfield College.
