South Korea expects eventual benefit from U.S. tapering

Despite an outflow of capital from emerging markets due to the U.S. Federal Reserve's planned tapering its bond-buying program, South Korea should ultimately benefit, said Finance Minister Hyun Oh-seok. Korea "should diverge from other emerging countries in terms of a spillover from the so-called Bernanke shock from possible tapering of the U.S. quantitative easing, buoyed by sound financial health such as current-account surplus and a low portion of short-term foreign debt," Hyun said.
