Tomato shipper to close Ohio shed amid labor shortage

Ohio tomato grower and shipper Charles Jones Produce won't pack tomatoes at its Oak Harbor, Ohio, shed this year because of a labor shortage driven by the opening of a new Customs and Border Protection station that's scaring away prospective workers, according to the Farm Labor Organizing Committee. "There are more than 100 officers in Sandusky, and it's put a big chill in northern Ohio," said committee President Baldemar Velasquez.
