Data show visits for preventive care are increasing

Preventive care visits are comprising a greater share of visits to family practice and internal medicine physicians, according to survey data. From 2001-02 to 2009-10, the percentage of visits for preventive care rose to 20% from 15% for family practice doctors and to 20% from 13% for internal medicine doctors. Preventive care visits to pediatric physicians grew from about 35% to 40%, while such visits to obstetric and gynecologic doctors reached 70%.
