In 2001, Americans spent $1.25 billion on food bars, a 1.32% increase from the previous year. Energy bars' popularity partly is attributed to supermarkets, drug stores, discount stores, health-food stores and gas stations stocking their shelves for consumers in search of nutrition on the go.
