Former students write a last assignment for an ailing teacher

Tomorrow, as many as 500 former students of Carrie Kolder, will attend a farewell party in the Fremd High School cafeteria for the veteran English teacher, who is battling a brain tumor. When she issued her party invitations, "Mrs. K" asked the thousands of students she'd taught over the last 31 years to write an essay on how her class had affected them.
