Medtronic focuses on spine unit, targets overseas growth

Medtronic's second-largest unit, its spine division, is facing new pressures, including competition from small, doctor-owned firms and challenges stemming from its $4.2 billion acquisition of Kyphon, according to an annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company also underscored its increased focus on international sales, which generated 38% of its total revenue in the latest fiscal year.
