Nokia's open-source play puts pressure on Microsoft

Microsoft has downplayed Nokia's plans to unite the wireless industry behind its intentions to develop Symbian into an open-source operating system despite analyst concerns that cell phone companies would tilt toward software that would cost them nothing, or next to nothing. Microsoft instead pointed to its own advantages: Windows Mobile is expected to be embedded in 20 million phones this year.
