Surge in WiMAX-equipment sales boosts Motorola

Global sales of WiMAX equipment jumped 59% in the first quarter from the previous period to $363 million, led by mobile WiMAX (802.16e) equipment whose revenue surpassed fixed WiMAX for the first time because of a number of launches of mobile WiMAX networks, according to Infonetics Research. The results were especially a boon to Motorola, which gained the top spot in WiMAX revenue by raising its market share as it became the first equipment maker to exceed $50 million in mobile WiMAX sales in a single quarter, according to Infonetics.
