Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke guided the central bank's Federal Open Market Committee through a finely balanced compromise. He gave assurances that the Fed has a plan to throttle inflation if it takes off and also eased worries about the fragile recovery, promising not to boost the interest rate yet. The compromise managed get votes from both inflation hawks and doves on the committee.
