Officials in Cuba and ASTA agree that roughly 835,000 American tourists, excluding Cuban-American family visitors and those on cruise ships, will likely visit the island nation annually. Miguel Figueras, an adviser at the tourism ministry of Cuba, says that the country's tourism industry will have the capacity to welcome such a surge in visitors. "The Americans are welcome here," Figueras said. "You have to be prepared for that, but you can't make your development plans depend on whether this happens."
