House approves $44B DHS spending bill

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a $44 billion appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security, an increase of 7% over current spending levels. Among lawmakers' priorities: keeping former Guantanamo detainees out of the U.S., providing salaries for 20,000 border patrol agents and doubling spending for airport screening devices to $1.1 billion.
