Economic growth has been fueled by corporate spending on machinery, computers and steel in three of the past four months, which could lead to an uptick in job creation later this year. Companies such as Caterpillar are exporting more to developing economies in China, Brazil and India. The Labor Department reported that the number of people filing first-time claims for jobless benefits fell by 19,000 last week -- the largest drop in two months.
