BART project gets federal OK for environmental study

A plan to extend San Francisco's metro transit system to South Bay cleared a hurdle this week after the Federal Transit Administration approved the environmental report. The approval also clears the way for the state to apply for some $900 million in federal aid. The $2.1 billion project would extend the BART system 10 miles to the Berryessa area of San Jose.
