Anti-cancer compound identified in naked mole rats

Scientists recently isolated a polysaccharide with anti-cancer properties in the cells of naked mole rats. The compound, high-molecular-mass hyaluronan, allows the underground-dwelling rats to contort their 4-inch hairless bodies in hard-to-imagine ways to navigate their environment and has the convenient side effect of rendering the rats cancer-free.
