Climate change could unlock Chernobyl's radioactive waste

Forests around Chernobyl have been absorbing radioactive waste for more than a quarter of a century, but climate change is making the region more vulnerable to wildfires that could cause a release of that radioactivity. "If Chernobyl forests burn, contaminants would migrate outside the immediate area. We know that," forestry professor Sergiy Zibtsev says.
