New insulin pump shows efficacy in reducing hypoglycemia

Diabetes patients who used Medtronic's new insulin pump had about 32% fewer bouts of nocturnal hypoglycemia and 31.4% fewer daytime hypoglycemia episodes compared with patients using a standard insulin pump, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. Participants who used the device also had lower hypoglycemia duration than those who did not use the device, researchers reported at the ADA 73rd Scientific Sessions.
