Pet bird survives entrapment in hot vehicle

06/25/2013 | KPHO-TV (Phoenix)

Surprise, Ariz., firefighters had to rely on instinct and telephone guidance from an expert when they received a call about an unresponsive cockatoo. The bird, named Rusty, was accidentally locked inside a truck along with his owner's keys and was recumbent in his cage by the time firefighters were able to open the vehicle. Firefighters gave Rusty oxygen, put ice packs under his wings and fanned and squirted him with water. The bird was taken to a veterinarian and is doing fine.
