Summer program designed to challenge eighth-graders

Several middle schools in a Florida district have partnered with the St. Petersburg-based ropes course and team-building company Pathfinder Outdoor Education to offer a 13-day program for eighth-grade students who failed a course during the school year. The program -- in its first year -- is designed to challenge the students academically and physically. And, in addition to making up needed classes, students also will work to prepare for high school by developing their social skills.
