U.K. engineers propose changes for medical-device regulation

In a new report, Britain's Royal Academy of Engineering recommended changes in the way medical devices are evaluated for safety and effectiveness, including better safety analysis, establishment of more clinical research centers, and greater input from patients, manufacturers and health care professionals. The report comes as the European Parliament is working against a July 10 deadline to issue amendments to the Medical Device Regulation.
