Research: Commute times hold steady even during urban sprawl

Time spent commuting does not increase as much as one might expect as cities grow, according to two recent studies. One key reason for this is that people tend to rely more on public transportation when roads become too congested. In addition, some people move closer to their jobs or take fewer nonessential trips.
