SEC's White discusses benefits of companies self-reporting violations

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Jo White is urging companies to seriously consider self-reporting compliance violations as the agency gives credit for such overtures. She said a company could receive a reduced penalty or even no penalty when it self-reports. For companies thinking they can escape detection, White said the possibility that they might be reported by a whistleblower is growing.
