AMA calls for investigation of retail health clinics

The American Medical Association is calling for an investigation into whether retail-based health clinics that are run by pharmacy chains pose a conflict of interest and put patients' health at risk. The AMA's efforts come after members complained that the clinics interfered with the traditional practice of medicine, but a spokesman for Walgreen Co., which runs 63 such clinics, said an investigation would reveal no problems.
