Column: Despite economic downturn, opportunities abound

Travel agents have gone through a number of changes in the past decade or so and faced countless challenges in the form of natural disasters, loss of airline commissions and the Sept. 11 attacks. Many agents headed to home offices to reduce expenses and boost their flexibility. Now, the economic downturn is creating a variety of issues, but columnist Mary Brutscher says that agents who persevere will be rewarded in the end.
