Medvedev vows leaner Russian government role

Russia plans to pare back the government's role in the economy and cut spending in a bid to hold down inflation, President Dmitri Medvedev said. He rejected allegations the Kremlin was trying to force BP to sell its 50% stake in oil concern TNK-BP to a state energy company. Medvedev said poverty and corruption were Russia's greatest internal threats, and he promised to fight both.
