Complex infrastructure work calls for more advanced technology

CH2M HILL heads up work on the $6.1 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel project in London. The pre-planning stage included more than 70 groups, and so the firm turned to technology to help with collaboration and cost estimates. It used building information modeling systems from Bentley and GIS software. Simon Williams-Gunn, the project's engineering systems lead, said the cost to manually manage the information on a such a massive project would have cost 10 times more than was paid for the technology.
