Hospital to study whether exposure to garden helps ICU patients

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Ore., plans to break ground in August for a terrace garden adjacent to its cardiovascular ICU and Family Birth Center. The center will study whether the garden has therapeutic benefits for patients. "We'll be looking for objective measures, if there are any," said Dr. Alar Mirka, director of clinical research for the Legacy Research Institute.
