India's brand-name drug prices to be decided by interministerial panel

An interministerial panel is being formed in India that would decide how the high prices of patented medicines should be controlled in that country. The group would be led either by the Planning Commission or the Department of Pharmaceuticals, and its members would likely include the departments of commerce, industrial policy and promotion, and pharmaceuticals, as well as the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. A pharma department official verified that the process of constituting the panel is ongoing and methods of work will be finalized shortly.
