NYC does not formally evaluate top administrators

New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said he conducts informal evaluations of top school administrators daily, but not the formal, high-stakes evaluations that teachers are subject to. A public records request from The Wall Street Journal revealed that formal evaluations had not been conducted for senior administrators since 2001. Walcott said teachers, who are directly responsible for students' education, are held to different standards than administrators who set policy.
